We’re very excited here at the Suburban Bee Company.
The 2015 bee season is upon us and will be the first full season at our new home, Barwell Honey Farm near Claygate in Surrey. Here we have lots of room to expand but we’re still in the heart of suburbia where the bees can forage through gardens, parks, allotments and even the wild verges along railway tracks.
We’ve kept hives for several seasons at the bottom of the garden at Suburban Bee Company headquarters. But space is limited and although the neighbours are fantastic, we’re pretty sure there will be some limit to their tolerance as the hives pile up and bees zoom back and forth like a busy day at Heathrow.
It’s really hard to believe we’re not in the middle of the countryside here at Barwell (see the pic). But literally the other side of the fence, the homes and gardens start and lead on through to the railway station and shops in the high street.
This photo was taken on a pretty damp Sunday afternoon in early March but the blossom is slowly coming out and the bees are emerging. The season is on us and I’m sure like all beekeepers we’re buzzing with anticipation – can’t wait to open up the hives for the first inspection of the year. More to come on that over the next blogs
